Hi, i have replaced head gasket, lifters and pushrods and cleaned the valves. Could i do a compression test with only the head on, not waterpump, not generator, not manifolds or anything? I know i have to disable the fuel pump, but is it ok to do a compression test before i have run the engine and got oil all places it should be? I have used lucas assembly lube on the lifters, pushrods, valves and anything else that should have oil on it. Would the oilpump function if i use the starter to do the compression test? Should i fill the rocker arm with oil before i do it?

You know the cylinders and rings won't have the normal amount of oil on them to form the usual seal in an engine that's been running, so the readings may be low. Keep this in mind when looking at/comparing the numbers you get.
The lifters might not be fully pumped up with oil yet, but that would only affect the amount that the valves open, not the test itself.
Remove the spark plugs if you've installed them for the test.
Install the gauge and crank the engine at least 4 revolutions for each cylinder, to get an accurate reading. Write the reading down for future reference.
Remove gauge, zero gauge or release pressure, and repeat procedure for each subsequent cylinder.
Readings should be within 15% from highest to lowest cylinder.
The above stated is just my opinion of course.

I have not done anything with the cylinder rings, and there is oil on the cylinder walls. The engine has not been used in 3 weeks, but that wouldnt remove the oil on the cylinder walls, or?
