Clonking noise from rear end especially under load
My 98 4.0 Auto Orvis has a clonking or knocking sound from the REAR end. This is far more apparent under load and especially if driven hard from rest. Under normal driving it can still be heard. It is not a whining noise. It sounds more like it is from the nearside. I wonder if anyone has had a similar problem?

Check the u-joints in the drive-shaft for play. And the transmission mount for damage/wear. Also check the bushings in the shocks and control arms.
