cherokee with v6 question
transfercase is NOT an np231 or np242, it's an np207 or whatever the 80's selec-trac setup was...it's garbage.

no you didn't. 87 was the first year that Jeep went with the 4.0 over the 2.8 V6. Yours must be an 86 or older. The 2.8 V6 isn't a good engine at all. It was bought from Chevy for the Cherokee for the first three years of production. From what I hear, the 2.5 4 cylinder is a pretty decent engine on par with the 4.0.
when i was living in texas we owned a 84 jeep with a 4 cyl. in it. Pulled like a freight train. Had a crappy pre heater under the carb though. My wife eventually threw the rod in it, one of many, and i had to get rid of it. We pulled horses with it. now i don't know if that was the same 4 cyl. as the 87 but for a 4 banger it wasn't to bad.
