Check Engine Light
Hello!
I just bought my 2000 Grand Cherokee, and after I got my power steering pump leak fixed, the check engine light came on.
I got a diagnostic test from Auto Zone and 3 sheets printed. Below is a list of things that printed:
Ignition coil primary circuit
Cylinder misfire detected
Powertrain control module monitors the crankshaft detected a misfire condition
MAP Barometer or MAF/VAF sensor condition
And my heat or air is not working
Not really looking for a mechanic, but which issue should I have checked first?
Thank you for any assistance

check the connections, reset the PCM and see if the CEL returns. if it does go from there. did you do the work yourself? if not I'd call the shop where the repair was performed and get yourself a free Diag.

The coil code could be just a poor ground. Check the ground coming off the back of the valve cover going to the fire wall. It should be a wide, flat braided piece of juck. They get corroded and dont work very well. Change that to a regular wire.
+1 on what sportrider said. get the codes cleared and see what comes back. It could be old codes that have been fixed.....just a thought.
If codes come back just work your way through the list. Post back here so we can help. Welcome to the addiction!

I've got a 2001 and the engine light came on about 2 years ago. The diagnostic is that it misfires in the #1 and 6 cylinders. Re-did the coil pack and carb sensors and alternator. Have had it in three different shops. One was a dealer. Still have the problem. Sorry I'm no help but if you get any answers let me know. I'm new to the site and was going to post the same question. I just get the computer re-set when I need to smog and let it go from there. Feel little hesitation from time to time but that's it. However I just posted a problem with some intermittent clatter. Related? I dunno?
