camshaf position sensor

iam new to this.1997 cherokee 5.2 pulled the engine and replaced dont know where to plug the camshaft sensor to.i cant see any other plugs it may fit...help!!

Are you sure that is an XJ?

Welcome to the forum.

The Cherokee XJ was not offered w/ the 5.2L V8 engine.

My guess is the inquiry is instead about the 1997 Grand Cherokee ZJ w/ the 5.2L V8 engine.

Step 2, the 5.2L has a crankshaft position sensor, CPS, not a camshaft position sensor.

After the engine is installed, replace the CPS, not before, to avoid physical damage to the CPS.

The mating connector is part of the vehicle harness, on the passenger side of the chassis. It is not part of the engine harness.
