Bolts keep coming out of transmission
Hey everyone, i am new here and yes i am a woman...Dont know technical terms but i will tell you what i do know, lol..i have a 98 jeep grand cherokee, love it to death but right now it is aggravating me, for the past four months the bolts keep coming out of my transmission, all four of them..It will start with a load metal to metal noise and then it will only make the noise when in reverse and going in passing gear..We check it for the bolts and once again they are all out. We have put lock tight on the bolts put in bigger bolts etc. After just a week or so of driving it the whole jeep starts to shake and the noise comes back, bolts are gone.. I believe they are called bellhousing bolts, lol...If you have any idea why they keep coming out and how i can keep them in let me know..i do not want to get rid of my jeep but if it keeps it up i will have to..Thank you very much for your help.

Have a good shop look at it. Sounds like there might be a vibration issue somewhere causing the bolts to loosen up. And do u mean bell housing bolts, or flywheel bolts?

I know you are trying to explain this the best you can, but if at all possible could you explain which bolts, where on the trans etc, maybe a pic or two. There are more than 4 bellhousing bolts and most bolts on the trans cannot be replaced with bigger bolts due to space and compatibilty. If bellhousing bolts come loose or disappear, it seems to me like it wouldn't take long for something to break especially anywhere on a trans.

Also check your engine and transmission mounts for failure. Something is causing your issue, and bad mounts combined with vibration could cause it. JMO
