Why does everybody start at the alternator or BCM? Start at the battery, load test it and see if it is any good. You can't be sure if the charging system is good or bad if you have a junk battery.

You're right Busted. Too many electrical problems start with a bad battery or cable connections. My post was just a shot in the dark to see if I got some return fire to start a serious discussion instead of trashing the newbie.
Yes, the alternator could be perfect and if the battery isn't storing the charge, it would look like the alternator. Case in point; I had an 81 Chevy Citation less than a year old. When I started it one time, I heard a load pop and a bit of smoke from under the hood. When I investigated, the vent caps had blown off the top of the battery. I had a shorted cell. Just because the battery is new, doesn't mean it's okay. My warentee only covered the powertrain and nothing else! |
