battery problems

I just baught a 1995 jeep grand cherokee leardo v6 and has way to many miles on it(242xxx). But to get to the point when I baught the jeep the battery keeps dieng and wont stay charged and when the battery gets really low the abs light will turn on then the air bag light. Then it just dies. I went to an advanced auto store to get it looked at and the guy just told me it was a body control moduel and I heard the 1995's didnt have them. Is it worth fixing? Please help me find the problem! Thanks

Hmmm. Is this a Cherokee or Grand Cherokee? Neither came with a V6. I think the bulk of us Jeeps guys are very confused right now.

I'd do some research so you don't flamed anymore... check the alternator, and the grounds. You need to go into more detail with this. Get a voltmeter and check what you are pushing out with the vehicle running it should be 14volts. Also pick up a tech manual so you can add some XJ knowledge, and using the search function on the top of the of the home page will do wonders for you

Im sorry I meant 4 cylinder. 4.o but it is a grand cherokee. Lol

Um, methinks you need to figure out what you have...If it's a 4.0 its an inline 6...and you should probably take it to a shop and not advanced auto to get a proper diagnostic.

Huh? What is it? A 4 cylinder? A 4.0?

Your posts are about as clear as mud.......

If it is a 4.0, then it is a straight 6cyl. As stated. Test your alternator. If it is not charging, that will kill battery.

Do not listen to advice from autostores. Just tell them you want to know codes, then come online with them.

First take a photo of the engine.
Next repost in GRAND cherokee tech.
Hope this helps.

levip400 10-01-2013 09:17 AM

4.0 in line 6

Regardless of what motor you have, I'd say your alternator is fried.
