Auto Tranny Lines Leaking
Hey, guys and gals. My buddy and I were doing the front brakes on my 2005 Grand Cherokee Laredo (4.7) yesterday. I had been told by the local dealer that the auto tranny lines were leaking and needed to be replaced (65K miles on the Jeep), so we took a look and sure enough, at least one, possibly two of the lines on the passenger side of the truck are leaking. The leak seems to be where the narrow portion of the tube goes into the lager, more flexible portion, and didn't look like it was too bad yet. Fluid level was fine as well.
The dealership wants to change the lines and flush the tranny while they're at it, but I have no doubt that'll be hella expensive. Still, my buddy and I thought it looked a bit tough for us to do the change ourselves.
Think this is something I should leave to them? My buddy is very good with mechanical stuff, I'm so-so.
Other than that, the Jeep looked great. Rock solid underneath and the brakes were easy as pie to do.

You should be able to handle the job yourself.
If you get the lines at the dealer they're not cheap, but they are a direct fit and not a "make-to-fit" deal. Some outlet places might carry the same lines but I don't know. JMO

Thanks. I figure I'll get an estimate from the dealer, get a price for the parts, and get an estimate from a local non-dealer Jeep shop in town too. Just to compare and see what's up. They look fairly easy to get to...
