Has anyone tried this new scan tool on a 96 ZJ?
The young lady at Advance Auto said their Actron CP9580 OBD2 scan tool will check ABS codes, but does not give an exact description of the problem – just the code number. However, the reader said no codes were set on my 96 that has the ABS light on and she said she’s never had it read an ABS code unless the check engine light was also on.
I checked the Actron web site and downloaded the application list and there is a 97 Grand on the list but no 96. Anyone had success getting ABS codes with this scanner?
BTW these are being sold on line for $135 to $166 VS the in store price of $229.

I got this from the Actron Tech support:
"The coverage chart is for ABS specific, not for OBDII engine data, ABS is not a part of OBDII, which is for check engine lights. The tool will ask you if the vehicle has ABS when you enter it into the tool if the vehicle is covered. If the tool does not ask "Does this vehicle have ABS" then it is not scanning the ABS, and this model year is not covered so it will not read ABS codes on a 1996 Grand Cherokee."
So, unfortunately, it apparently won't read ABS codes on my 96; It could be a good deal for you guys with 97s and up, though.
