AC not working

AC not working
I have a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7L
SO my issue is that the AC clutch isn't engaging on its own. I did the old fashion open relay and touch ends to see if it engaged that way and it does. So relay works and power is going to the AC compressor itself. Next thing i did was see if it freon was low and if it needed a recharge but i did I notice before I even added the freon it started building pressure on the low side of the ac line and my thought is that issue might be the reason the ac clutch isn't engaging. Just don't know where to start. Or if the compressor itself is shot. Thanks in advance for any help.
