So the grand is leaking tranny fluid where the transfer meets up to the tranny....i take it that there is a seal there? What is the seal called? Est. time for replacing it??

what all has to come off?

It's called the "Extension Housing / Transfer Case Seal" and looks to be fairly simple to replace (does not require the removal of either the transmission or transfer case). Parts to remove are the drive shaft, dust shield (if equipped), and then the seal. I'm assuming an automatic transmission.

Edit: Oops, gave the description for the transfer case seals.

There's 2 seals there. It's either the transmission output seal, or the transfer case input seal, but either way the t-case has to be removed to fix it. Does the trans fluid level on the dip stick go down, or have you checked the t-case fluid level?
You need to remove both drive shafts, the crossmember, the linkage and wiring going to the t-case, then support the trans, and remove the t-case. If you can't tell which seal is bad, replace them both. They're only around $15.

ol'blue, its transmission fluid that is leaking because its red atf...well wait doesn't the transfer take atf as well? anywho yeah my tranny fluid goes down because I have a leak somewhere with my transmission cooler that I have...I though it was because of a broken hose clamp...but apparantly that was only one of them lol...I can't seem to track down where that one is coming from....haven't checked the transfer case fluid lately though...something i need to check.

Yep, the t-case also uses trans fluid when you fill it. There's two plugs on the rear. A lower drain plug, and one up higher to fill/check it. Fluid should be at the bottom of the fill hole.
For example:

I have bought both seals...Does anyone know about how long it takes to do it if you have access to a lift? I am trying to plan accordingly

What transfercase do you have? 242's have a plug that occasionally pops off that at first glance would indicate a failed seal.

A lift does make pulling/installing the seals much easier, if you havent one so yet i'd suggest planning 5 hours or better.

You have an NP242..

Plug is located above the shift linkage arm on case half.

Alright, I will give that a check. I have to keep adding fluid to the transmission...wouldn't that plug only be if I was loosing the oil from my transfer? Anywho, when I get home from work I will look and check that plug out...It would make my day if it was just a plug.
