97 grand ground problem

97 grand ground problem
can anyone tell me where the ground strap that goes from the engine block to the body i think it broke on my girls grand cause if i hook the jumper cables from the ground on the batt to the firewall it will start and all lights work take it off and nothin please help

With symptoms like that, are you sure its not the main battery ground..?
I would check that to make sure those are okay first (trace the cables, look for broken spots, and corroded connections. dont be afraid to move them around.), if youre going from neg. bat. post to a good ground with good jumpers and it all works....
Back to the OQ. Not sure on the grands, but on the xj's its by the very rear of the valve cover towards the drivers side (on a big bolt) to the firewall (would at least be a good place to look for strap remains).

yea i looked there i have an xj so that was the first place i looked well ill look again tomarrow till then the jumper cables will hold and at least it runs now

Thats odd. IS there by chance a big bolt there? If so you could possibly fab up a new "strap" with some decent sized wire from the locations on the xjs....would at least be worth a shot.
