hey I'm Mike I am going to be picking up a 96 jeep zj with the 5.2 and quadratrac for free. One problem is that it has over 330,000 miles ont it bone stock. I am planning on doing a 3.5 inch lift with 32s on it arbs front and back and some armor. The thing i am having trouble finding is what to do with the engine, transmission and transfercase. I could put back in stock replacement parts (lame), long story short i was wondering if someone can point me in the derection of what to do for engine, transmission, and tcase swap or upgrades. i have searched but computers really aren't one of my strong suits. Thanks for the help.

 

Theres about a million different answers to those questions. You have to decide on what you want to do with the Jeep and buy/make/modify/etc the appropriate combination of parts.

all you just did was reword the same question. You really need to do some research, thats why these sites exist. Archives of information.

 

Mopar Performance has some hop up goodies for the 5.2, the transmission can be rebuilt with some upgrades to make it stronger than stock, and swapping in a 231 transfercase will give you part time 4wd and 4lo.

I would say, get the engine and trans rebuilt, and swap the transfer case for a 242 so u have 2 hi, 4 hi, all and part time, and 4 lo.

 

How about all three items out of a junk yard Dodge Durango ,,they come with 5.2 Magnum jeep and dodge both MOPAR ...Thays what i'm getting ready to do ...slide right in as long as your running a 5.2 now

 

That would work too, by rebuilding them tho, you know the condition of them.

 

The one i found was a insurance total { rollover } only has 31,000 miles on it got all three pieces for $11,000 ...my jeep has 275 K nothing rebuilt...find some wreaking yards make some phone calls ,,good deals everywhere

 

11k will buy you one hell of a nice Grand Cherokee that you can drive with no need of a rebuild.
