Default 94 ZJ, alarm won't stop.

Newb here,

Hello all, just got a beautiful 94 V8 ZJ a few days ago. Last night and this morning I ran into a problem. I do not know how to dismantle the car alarm/security on the jeep.

Vehicle has power door locks, and I only have a single key. The first two days I had it - no problems at all. Locking, unlocking, starting it up... no problems at all...fires right up.

Now I can't drive the jeep. Anytime you open the door the alarm goes off. Stick a key in the door to lock or unlock - the alarm goes off. If I still fire up the engine while the alarm is sounding, it will just kill the engine. The horn honks for about 2-3 minutes and the headlights continue to blink for another 1-2 minutes afterwards.

would like to just dismantle alarm if possible, and if it doesn't affect anything important. I'm looking at the haynes repair manual now, but am at a loss.

Vehicle:
Anything else electrical works in the car just fine. Windows, defrost, a/c,heater, dimmers, lights etc.. all work great.

The battery is low and NEEDS to be replaced. Can a bad battery do that or is this something else. Thanks in advance!!

so to answer my own question, it seems if I go to the passenger side and stick the key in and lock/unlock; it will shut off the alarm. Still, is there a plug or something coming from my battery that would allow me to just disable the alarm. It sucks having to go to the passenger side door every time. Thanks!

correct me if im wrong, but there is a little black box behind the glove compartment? I had the same problem on my 94ZJ, and if memory serves, that disabled the alarm? or you can jumper one of the wires to disable it but I don't remember which ones lol if this doesn't help, I hope it's a start lol

Yep you have to ground the disarm wire (driver kick panel or door, purple and yellow), removing the brain won't solve it.

Yea I went out and unhooked the battery and it stopped.

Thanks firefighter. I saw your old post from Jan around the same time you were posting this one on mine. Kinda ironic. Worked great, no alarm problem now.

I'm still going to ground it out one day in case it happens in the future. I also read somewhere else about this guy grounding the hood pin wire so the alarm thinks the hood is open.

Have you had any alarm problems since you unhooked the battery cable Firefighter, or was it a one time issue?

Thanks everyone

I wouldn't trick the alarm into thinking anything when you can just disarm it. The sooner you do it the better because one day you may come out from a store and fine the truck immobilized.

Ask me how i know

No problems after that. The neighbors were not to happy with a car alarm going off at 6am.

I agree 100%. I did take the battery cable off, which allowed me to finally enter and drive it, but now anytime I try to lock the doors, the alarm will go off. So I'm back to using the passenger door again.

With advice like that, you'll always be WINNING!!!

My wire was more Pink with a yellow trace. Found it pretty high in the drivers kickpanel, connected at a double 25 pin or so socket. I used one of the blue scotch locks, a fuse and holder with about 6 inches of wire over to one of the grounded bolts near the steering wheel.
This does not dismantle or disable the alarm. What it does do is give it an always "OK" signal. It thinks everything is fine. I have a 93 with 190k on the odometer. Some one please steal the thing! (Not going to happen)

Ron,

are you referring to the disarm wire?

I'll probably be doing this. Thanks everyone!
