I have a 1994 Jeep Gran Cherokee Laredo with the 4x4 FULL Time, im guessing its a Quad-Trac Transmission, by the way, my engine is a V-8. so my problem is I bought the Jeep for 1000.00, clean exterior and interior and in amazing shape but now the Jeep will not go in reverse, and has troubles shift from time to time when driving. I know my tranny is going out but im trying to see if theres anything i can do to try to fix it or am i just screwed? also, how long will it take for the rest of the gears to quit working??. any ideas or answers would help out a ton!! thanks guys

It's time to bite the bullet and get that transmission rebuilt or replaced with a reman.
whats a reman?
and how much would it cost to get a re-build? if i did it on my own vs. taking it to a mechanic? also, do you know how long it will take for the other drive gears to go out?

You're looking at about $1800 to have yours rebuilt. Thats removing the transmission, tearing it down, replacing the seals and fiber clutches and bands. If hard parts are needed it will cost a little more. A remanufactured transmission will cost about $1800, but that is only for the transmission, no install labor. Do not try and and rebuild it yourself if you've never done it before, it will bite you in the a$$ and you won't know it until you have everything all back together. Do shop around for the best price and best warranty. The prices I quoted are just a ballpark figure, it could be more or it could be less.
