93 ZJ 4x4 4.0 ---> SPEEDOMETER / ODOMETER DEAD
Hoping to gain some tips for more knowledgable members. Ive searched and searched and could find no help regarding the ZJ generation speedometer problems.
Speedometer and odometer have stopped working all together. EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS FINE. No airbag light, no check engine.
I installed a brand new speed sensor.
I swapped in a new gauge cluster from a working 94 ZJ.
No change, What other possibility can cause this?
ALL HELP APPRECIATED !!!!

Out of curiosity have you changed the speedo gear in the t-case. I ask because if you don't put the sensor back in the exact right spot, and there are several spots it will mount in, your speedo and odo won't work. Also it is an electronic speedo so you might want to check the connection on the t-case (it's on the rear on the housing where the slip yoke of the drive shaft goes in) and follow the wire up the firewall to make sure it isn't damaged.

which one would be more likely to go bad first? the wiring or the gear?
I know toyotas and chevys pretty good but am completely clueless on jeeps
Ill run up the wires tomorrow morning to see.
is there a way to test the old sensor? (if i put a multi tester and get any kind of result does it mean it still worked ?)
This happens quite often i work at a shop there is a TSB for the clock spring grounding out and a shorting problem, beep the horn see if its a temp fix, if not pull the steering wheel and check out your clock spring, hope this helps, p.s. my 96 does it too thats what got me aware of the problem
