It's a 1989 jeep cherokee. Drives great in 2x4 but it won't go in 4x4 full time and when I put it in 4x4 part time it squeaks when I turn the wheel. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

Mine will go into full time but the dash calls it part time. The squeaking could be a bad mount.

Gentlemen... let me start you off on the right foot here. first off welcome. second.... do research, almost ever question you have can be answered if you search for it. You're on a Jeep forum, 4x4 is blocked in searches because it's as common here as the word "and", it would level the servers searching every thread for that word.

What do you mean it wont go into full time? Does the shift lever literally not move into full time? Does it pop out? Does it indicate full time but nothing happens? What?
