Default 4LO issues

I would just like to start out and say hello! My first post on here, but I've been lurking for a few days! I bought my first jeep 3 days ago. I love it. It's a 2000 GC Limited with the 242 transfer case swap. It runs like a champ in 4 fulltime and 4 parttime. I would like to really crawl because it does have 4.56's but that's where I run into issues. When I put it in 4Lo (it does go in fairly easily), it does feel like it goes into 4Lo. When I start to go up a steep hill it will kind of clunk and I will lose traction and JUST the rear wheels will spin. Could this just be a linkage issue? I'd appreciate any feedback and I'm glad to have a community like this to ask questions!

Just to clarify, the previous owner redid everything, mounts, fluid, bushings, whatever. I'm just hoping the linkage needs to be adjusted.

Anybody have anything? I'm stressin'. People have said it could be a shifting fork but I'm really hoping not.

does the shifter move when it clunks? try holding the shifter in 4 low and if it stays in 4 low it just needs adjusted. the XJ we bought for the boy you have to hold the lever into 4low for it to stay.

The shifter does not move. It just clunks and I lose the front axle.

Alright, just took it out. If I hold it really hard it won't pop out until I release pressure. But even when it does the shifter doesn't move.

Went for another drive with my dad. He got the tires to spin and it was popping in and out of 4lo. I'm gonna go insane.

It could either be an issue of not staying in 4lo or the chain could be slipping in the TC.
