Default 4 to 1 question.

K I have a 98 5.9l grand. It is still my DD and I am slowly building it to at some time take over my XJ's job as it gets more worn out. My question is I have a Tera low that I can put in the grand but would like some input from any of you who may have a v8 and a low kit. On my xj some trails it's a pain in low so I use 4 high and muscle it more than I should. With the v8 I was wondering do I need the low or just stick with a stock 231 sye.
Thx.

Right. I am swapping in the 231 to get rid of the awd setup. Hoping to find some one on here with a low t case v8 to get some pros and cons. It will be the 231 either way just trying to figure if I will like the low or leave it a stock t case and sell the 4 to 1.

It would probably help if you mentioned things like tire size and gear ratio (maybe even axles too). The 4:1 ratio + v8 + say 35s are not going to be Dana 30 friendly.

I do realize these could be small factors to the question asked but I was more trying to get info in the drivability (comfort in driving) on the trail. Some trails 4 to one is too slow and 4 high at times you end up pushing it a little graded with no real inbetween gear. But to your question.
4.56 gears with end tire size of 35's in time slow build.
And I will be swapping in a d60 I am building for rear for the time being the d30 will be staying. With it open or limited slip and only moderate use for a while longer I am not worried about axle issues. I don't abuse this one. At least not yet as long as the xj still survives.
