I have a 94 V8 with a long arm and a 4 link rear. Dana 44 and a Ford 9" rear end. I wanna do mostly mudding ...but occasionally I will crawl around. Is there any way I could cut enough of the fenders front and back (without getting to deep into fabrication) to allow for good flex? Or should I just go to a 36x12.50?

Yeah I'm riding about 6-6.5 inches of lift......I'm willing to cut however much needed without having to weld up too much support.

you need the 10 inch wide rim for the 13.5 wide tire.
to check backspacing, lay the rim face down and measure from the rear mounting plate to the rim lip.

(I went with 10" as i got a deal at the time, which outweighed any pro's-con's for me)
If you have the backspaceing keep what you have. If your changing wheels for better backspacing then pick which you think is better from reaserching why and why not...

Thanks for the diagram to find the backspacing. But I don't think you understand....I have right now 36x13.50x15 IROKs on right now. With a 15x10 rim. The backspace is close to 3.75". Do I need to think about going to a 36x12.50 (for better clearance from my fenders) or stay with my iroks and cut away my fenders. If I can keep my tires and just cut away my fenders. I'd like to. But I'm not sure if I can cut away enough fender without having to Fab supports.
It now makes sense, I also don't have any experience with trimming past your point So I am going to bow out to others who have done this.
My personal Opinion is that I wouldn't have more then 3.5" of BS, as it is adding a lot of leverage on your bearings/balljoints and would stick with 3.5-4" BS. But carry on! lol

i run those same 36x13.5 iroks and it says right on them they require a 10 inch rim. they are bias ply.
as for my rims, i run 3.0 inch backspace.
as for putting more stress on the ball joints... has really no ill effect.
as for the op, to fit these on a zj, you will need to trim quite a bit, have tons of lift, and remodel the inside of the passenger inner fender. there is a square bulge in there that the tire rubs when flexed. you can either cut it and patch it flat, or hammer it in.
as for the rears, if you cut too much, you will need to tack the fender to the inner as you will cut through the seam.

Op you can stretch the rear and eliminate cutting into the fender it can be done but like caged said more lift is required have a buddy with a 4 linked rear and runs 36" iroks no rubbing. He stretched the rear Back a few inches. But he went tall To avoid cutting into the body.
