if i could find some thornbirds the the price of these LTBs, or even the price they use to be which was around 160 a tire for the 31"s, now that same tire costs around 215 bucks...but if i could find them for their old price, or lower (the LTBs are around 135 bucks per tire) then i would get them instead of the LTBs...but i dont want to spend over 200 bucks for a tire again, when the chance of me blowing another one, is very good seeing as how the YJ spends most of its life off road
so in your first post you said you didnt see any reason NOT to get them, then afterwards you say you dont want to buy them because they are double the price of regular superswampers???? your right it is your money, and i think your making the right choice in going with the ltb's

price has nothing to do with their off road capability...price had nothing to do with how good they are off road, and that is what the OP asked, was how good they are off road, not if they cost to much. so i gave my input for how i like them offroad....its pretty simple...

i also never said they were double the price of a "regular" super swamper bc they are all super swampers...there is no "regular" super swamper...but yes, they are more then the LTBs like i want...the LTB and Thornbird are my two favorite tires from interco. i like them both...but, as i said before, i dont want to blow another tire that costs over 200 bucks...so, since the LTBs are about 90 bucks less then the thornbirds, it made it an easy choice..lol

so let me get this straight, you have never actually used or owned these tires.... you wouldnt put them on your own rig.... but you recommend them because "65" people you know run thornbirds and all of them think they work great? btw i consider cost a major factor in deciding tires on a truck, but with that said i wouldnt put thornturds on my rig if they were given to me for free. nuff said

i have yet to see why so many people on these forums dont like them...they have great, and i mean GREAT side lugs, best of any tire in my opinion...they arent that bad at cleaning out...in fact, they clean out a LOT better on my buddys XJ then my 31x10.5 MTRs clean out...

this is just my $.02

im buying myself some super swamper LTBs for the YJ...and i like the sound of loud tires going down the road...and these LTBs should be loud enough
your full of ****, send me a picture with 65 jeeps in it, all with thornbirds, and ill paypal you a 100 bucks right now.

heres the REAL reason, why thornbirds are the ****tiest tire known to man.

but then again, im not some 15 year old douchebag, with diarhea of the mouth, spewing mindless drivel without any ACTUAL experience of the product he is praising.

interco tire's should be shot in the kneecap for producing that garbage, and then ACTUALLY asking for $$ for them.

tsl thornbirds are USELESS.

they will do the following...

try to kill you on wet pavement.
try to kill you on dry pavement.
try to kill you on snow/ice.
cake up so much mud it will look like your rollin on dunkin donuts.
oh yeah, did i mention, they will try to kill you?

Not takin sides, just my input...I have connections with a guy at the factory that makes interco/superswampper and even he said that the tbornbirds are a total waste of production, but he never ran them...a friend of mine has them now and he likes them a lot...as for the ltb, it is an awesome offroad only tire...I have bias ones on my zj, and although it never sees pavement, I don't know about road manners...if you want the best bang I would go with the truxus m/t radias...I have them on my xj and I love them...only got stuck one time with them and it was not cause of the tires it was driver error...well worth the retail price, but I don't pay retail

Default Thornbirds are poop

Any TSL is a dedicated mud tire. You might put them on your truck and do great I dunno. I thought they sucked and especially when you pay the money to have a dedicated mud tire and its just not a performer. They are a S**T-Ton better then ant walmart mudder you could buy if you want a aggressive tire. But compared to a good ol set of regular Super Swampers, total crap. Thats why I said go with SSR's. I've ran them both and I gave away the Thorbirds when I bought my SSR, THey were given to me cause In the circle of people I was muddin with no-one would buy them, I didn't even try to sell them, I just gave to the next new guy in my unit that wanted to get into muddin.

Thats a good lookin' tire though.

The next mud tire I'm gonna run is a TrXus. I have never heard anything bad about them. They may not be as aggressive as other tires but if you really want an ALL TERRAIN tire its a compromise. You want a mud tire you can buy the best and it'll suck in the snow (mud tires aren't siped), YOu want a All terrain its not gonna be as good as the dedicated mud tire. I've actually heard TrXus is the best all around tire you can buy and their pretty quiet on the highway.

200 dollars for a set of thorbirds is Great. I don't think you'll buy a better mud tire for that amount of money, but I'd bet after you've owned them you'd say I wouldn't pay 200 bucks apeice for them.

alright, whatever, its like fighting a loosing battle with you...same with the newbie that said im full of crap..

this was an opinion based thread...he asked us what we thought of them...and i gave my input...I, personally, have never seen anything wrong with them..i like the tires..and i would love to put them on my own rig if i knew the possibility of blowing a tire was slim to none...as i said in my previous post...but i would rather run a cheaper tire, even if that means getting a set i dont like as much as the thornbirds, and putting them on the YJ, that way, if i do blow one out, i can easily get another

and no, ive never had them on my jeep, but a good friend of mine, who i wheel with every single time i go wheeling, and have wheeled in his XJ also with the thornbirds, does have them, and they work great for him....maybe it has to do with the light weight of his 94 2 door XJ, that its just not heavy enough to get them really caked like the fellow who put up the full size truck that weighs probably twice what his XJ weighs...

but, i wheel with this guy enough, that i could say i have had as much expirence with them as if i had a set myself...and i know some of you will say, that you have had the same set up as my friend, a 2 door XJ pre-1997, with the same tires and you didnt like them...but again, this is an opinion based thread...and since im the only person here who likes them, and think they are a good tire, then i guess that makes me full of crap.....so im sorry that i have a difference in opinion with you, crawlin, and you Iroc..but i guess itll stay that way

yea, ive heard only good things about those trXus tires too...thats what i was thinking about getting a while ago, but got the MTRs instead...but now since the YJ isnt my every day driver anymore, i figure ill go with a bias ply tire...maybe it wont blow out as easily as the MTR did..lol...although, it did hit a tree stump that put a hole the size of my fist thru the side wall..lol

yea, id just rather go with the LTBs...i love the agressive lug pattern...and i do drive the YJ on the road some, but not to much since i have the WJ...but ive been in plenty of rigs that are daily drivers with bias ply tires, and they arent bad on the road..even after it may have been sitting for a few days, just a couple miles down the road, and the flat spots are gone for the most part

Default Oh!!!!!!!!

I have noticed that they sell Thornbirds in really small sizes SOme mud tires you can't get any smaller then a 32......I wonder if there is anything to the lighter vehicle thing you said. Every vehicle I've seen them on is full size. They just look so COOL!!!!!! and I don't mean that smartass. First time I saw them I thought, now thats gotta be a badarse tire and I was dissapointed. Maybe thats why they get such a bad rap. They look like they SHOULD be the baddest tire ever HA!!!!
