Default 2008 - 2015 GC Quadra Trac

Been looking at Grand Cherokee's for an off road vehicle, just wondering if anybody has any comments, complaints or thoughts on the automatic 4 wheel drive. Any problems with it engaging when going off road? I'm just used to having either a manuel shift or a push button to 4 hi and 4 low.
Just looking for any comments or suggestions.

Thanks,
Kyler

The interior “‘you only had one bad thing to say about it and you made it seem like it’s a deal breaker.

If you are looking for an "off road" vehicle, I think you should define off road. The Quadra trac does not have a low range. It does however benefit from a computer controlled parking brake to sort of make a positrack of sorts. I wouldn't regard this as a serious off road candidate

Grand Cherokees quit being off road vehicles after 2004.

I don’t know if my 08 grand Cherokee limited has Quadra trac but it’s full time 4wd and has low range... I don’t plan on building it into a rock crawler but if a Toyota Highlander can do the Yukon trail then so can a grand Cherokee ...

The Quadra-Trac on the newer (2011+) models have a "Selec-Terrain" dial with the Quadra-Trac II (standard on Limited and above, or optional on the Quadra-Trac I system on the Laredo with the Off-Road Adventure I Group) adds a dial in the center console that has 5 different modes (Snow, Rock, Mud, Sand, and Auto... there's also a button for '4WD LOW') to fine-tune your QT system to whatever type of terrain you're on. I leave my '14 Grand Cherokee with the QTII system and Selec-Terrain in 'Auto', I've only adjusted it when playing around with it. It works pretty well in the snow in 'Auto' mode.

Upgrading to Quadra-Drive II on 2011+ models also gives you Quadra-Lift air suspension in addition to the Selec-Terrain dial. You can manually adjust the height to one of three predetermined modes (I believe they're "Normal", "Off-Road I", and "Off-Road II", but I don't have QD II in my 2014 Limited, only QT II without air suspension). You can also set the Quadra-Lift system to automatically lower the Jeep slightly once you put the transmission in 'Park' and engage the parking brake to make it easier to get in and out in parking lots. If you want to be absolutely sure the Jeep you're looking at has air suspension, make sure to get the Trailhawk model, which comes standard with QD II.

I've actually experienced QT in two other Grand Cherokees as well: my old 2005 Laredo with QT II, and it had the '4WD LOW' toggle switch in a slot near the transmission shifter (QT I doesn't have that switch on 2005-2010 models). It also worked pretty well, even in deep snow. I also had the "Originial" QT in my old 1994 Laredo, and it had the lever on the driver's side right next to and below the transmission shift lever. That worked pretty well, too.

My 2002 Laredo is a "Base Model" with the Selec-Trac (aka "Fully Manual") transfer case and the "Twin Stick" setup with the transmission shift lever and 4WD shifter right next to each other. The advantage to a "Manual" system is being able to keep the Jeep locked into 2WD/RWD (you CAN lock the 4WD Quadra-Trac and Quadra-Drive systems into 4WD, but NOT into 2WD or RWD), which leads to slightly better fuel economy when 4X4 is not needed. However, my '14 Limited has the 3.6L Pentastar V6, and gets anywhere from 22-25 MPG on a good day of mostly highway driving, so yeah, pretty good fuel economy.

There's my $0.02 on Quadra-Trac I/II and the Quadra-Drive Systems vs. Selec-Trac. Hope this helped a bit.
