Default 2007 Grand Cheerokee Issues

Looking for some help please: for some time now my interior thermometer has been inaccurate. Can someone tell me where the actual sensor probe is? Perhaps it need cleaned, but I cannot locate it? Also, on my center dash there are three ***** that control the heat/air conditioning. The lights have gone out, so at night it's a bit of a challenge to see the **** settings. My dealer has quoted me an astronomical amount to fix the problem. Any suggestions as to what I might do. I thought that there might be a small ligh gadget of some king that I could plug into the cigarette lighter to cast a "glow" on the *****. Help?

I was in Pep Boys the other day and they have all kinds of accent led lighting
for the interior, with peel and stick backing that would work. Also, have seen some
in AutoZone.
