Default 2007 GC Overland "popping & cracking"

Hi guys. I am a first-time Jeep owner and I must say that I simply LOVE the way my GC drives and handles. I am not an off-roader, but wanted the capabilities if needed and also wanted a vehicle that would be safe and reliable in our winter snow events. My wife is an ER doctor and needs to be able to get to work no matter what the weather dishes out.

ANYWAY .... I have a 2007 GC Overland with the Quadra-Drive system. The vehicle had 80,000 miles when I purchased it, and seems to have been pampered. No evidence of off-roading and the exterior is perfect. Free of door dings, etc.

The concern is that it pops and cracks from the rear end when entering or exiting an area that is higher or lower on incline. My driveway is an abrupt uphill climb when coming off the street, and every time I enter or exit this sound occurs. It is sometimes accompanied by a sound that sounds like something is rolling around in the rear of the vehicle.

Is this a "normal" sound for this vehicle? I hate to take it to a dealer and make an idiot out of myself for being concerned about a "normal Jeep sound", lol.

All help is appreciated. Thanks!

THANKS for the TSB link.

I will check with the local dealer to see if the TSB fix has been done to my GC.

However, I am unsure if this is what I am hearing. I don't have a "squeak" .... but rather what I would describe as a "pop" or "crack" sound. Kinda like what a rusted joint would make after a long time without use or lubrication. More of a "binding" sound, I suppose?

Any other thoughts?

Could there be something loose or broken back there that would cause this?

Sounds are hard to diagnose, and are described by people differently.
It could be the shocks, worn/damaged bushings in the rear control arms, or sway bar end links. JMO of course.

Thanks again 'Blue.

I'll roll under there this afternoon and see if anything looks worn or loose.
