2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO 3.7 V6
Had thermostat and sensor replaced. OK for a while, then started again. Temp gauge to 3/4 on dial. Ran with radiator cap off til thermostat opened then added anti freeze until air bubbles quit. Took about 3 pints Ran OK for more than 2 weeks. Started overheating again. Recovery bottle was still about 1/2 full. Had dropped some but not as much as I added. My question is: Isn't the engine cooling down supposed to recover coolant from the bottle as it cools down? I have to take it to the shop for everything except the "BURPING". My O2 hose will reach to the kitchen stoop and I can burp it after wife starts it. Am going to do it again after rain stops.
My opinion is, Coolant is going to bottle, but only about 1/2 of it is coming back. If this is true, Where is rest going?
Could I have some other opinions?

Has been OK now for about 2 weeks.??? Guess it's time to trade. Just hate to with only 80 K miles. Think I'll wait 'til it acts up one more time. THANKS all for reading my post. It was just a shot to get ideas.

Replaced radiator cap also by last post. Has been perfect ever since. Cap had held pressure, looked new and could see nothing wrong with it but it seems to have solved problem. 1st 2 weeks, had to add about 1/2 gallon of coolant. Has held ever since. Cap was same one that was on when purchased in 2013. Thanks all. sometimes cheapest and easiest fix works!!
