2004 Jeep Gr Cherokee - Multi Problems
We are having a problem with my wife's Jeep GC. Driving home from a 500 mi trip to visit family, it started loosing power to the instrument panel and engine, stalling and backfiring. The instrument panel lights would go dark and the gauges would go to zero flickering back on and off and then stall. Sometimes we could pull over, restart by slipping it in neutral. Sometimes it would die and we would roll to a stop before we could restart. We drove on home (about 300 miles) but it had these power loss fits several times. I don't remember it backfiring on that trip but it has now started backfiring along with these other symptoms. There have been no engine codes generated throughout this ordeal.
I've traced wiring using schematics and saw no problems. We left it at the dealership for 3 weeks with their tech troubleshooting it daily. He ruled out PCM, engine and alternator. Said he does not suspect SP wires. He said his gut feeling is that it is the fuel pump. I tend to think it is an electrical problem though because of the power loss to the instrument panel. Anyone have any ideas?
