Default 2000 V8 auto into a 96 4.0 ?

Can someone tell me if the auto in a 2000 4.7 GC...... which I believe would be the 46RE bolt directly into my 96 GC with a 4.0 which currently has the weaker 42RE ?

Reason I ask is I just bought a 2000 to part out, and if the trans will bolt up and hook up easily...Ill store it. Mine has been replaced once already, and Id like to have a stronger one ready to go in when it happens again.

TIA.

Any of the V8 transmissions will not work behind the 4.0.

You can always see if a transmission shop would be willing to trade that V8 tranny for a 4.0 42RE, all they can say is "no".
