So i just bought a 2000 Grand Cherokee on a whim. Paid $1200 for it, and had it towed home (thank you AAA). The previous owner parked it when it started to run hot. He thought the headgasket was blown, but i see no sign of water in the oil.

It has the 4.7L V8, AWD transfer case, all leather interior, sunroof, seems like all the bells and whistles.

I really know nothing about these cherokee's. I have a 1989 XJ, and this one i just bought will be for my wife. I am hoping you guys can shed some light on these for me. What are some common problems with these? Where should I begin the search to figure out the overheating issue? Are these V8 any good?

I figure worst case I can sell it for the $1200 i paid for it and get my money back.

BTW, I live in Washington State.

 

Check compression, anti freeze level, radiator usually corrodes out on the battery side, so check that good, check for any leaks, if none is found try thermostat. Make sure fans are in good working order.
