Default 2 different size tires

i have a 97 zj limited

would you be able to run a set of 255/70r16 in the front and 225-70r16 in the rear?

if its not recommended is there a reason why?

If you have 4wd you wont be able to safely engage it since the front and rear wheels need to be spinning at the same speed, if they arent you can break alot of things in your driveline. I wouldnt do it unless its a 2wd.

No, you cannot safely run those.

Your full-time transfer case needs all the tires to be VERY close to the same size to ensure correct operation. Almost 2 inches of difference between front and back is far too big of a variation for it.

x3. Your driveline will bind if not break vital parts. Not a good idea unless you plan on running in 2wd only.

If you put different size tires on rear and front you could do major damage to the transfer case the first time you put it in 4wd and the tires are on dry pavement and not slipping. Different size tires turn at different speeds and when you put it in 4wd it locks front and rear differentials together and something has to give if tires don't slip it could break chain or gears in transfer case.
