My 1998 Grand Cherokee 4.0 died at a traffic light and would not crank back up. Also, there is no power to gauges now. Motor will spin but will not crack. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you shook a ground wire loose somewhere. I'm 3 days in to Jeep ownership and haven't done any work on mine yet, but it sounds to me like you just lost the ground that controls your engine computer or something.
I'd find out where all the important ground wires are and start wiggling them around and see if you find a loose one.

I have the 5.2 so I'm not too sure if the set up is the same but it sounds like your ignition coil. I had the same problem it kept blowing the unmarked fuse in engine bay. Problem is the coil connector has no give so the heat cracks it with time and the wires arch thus blowing out fuse. .
