1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo Stalls when brake switch is pressed
I have a 1998 Laredo. When my foot is pressing on the brake pedal, the jeep started, and when I take it off it immediately shuts down.
It began as a stalling issue, periodically when driving and would take 15 minutes to 5 hours to start again. I replaced fuel pumps, sensors, relays, battery and cables, brake switch, and bulbs in rear lights to the cost of $1400 and hours wasted. It has been to three mechanics who can not figure it out. Checked all fuses and relays.
So, I was able to get the jeep to start and never stall by.... pushing the brake switch all the way, problem was the brake lights would always be on, unless you removed the brake light fuse. With fuse in the top hatch light is on and the rear right brake light is on but not the left. I switched bulbs and still the same result. A bit dangerous as other drivers do not know that I am braking as the light is always on, so had a few close calls.........
I have the manual and been driving myself crazy with the wiring diagrams, and still can not figure out why the brake switch and lights is related to the vehicle starting and running. I am assuming there is a ground issue somewhere, but I can not find where it is.......
Any ideas what the problem may be or where to start over from? I am at a loss.......
