Noob W/A 2008 Grand Cherokee 3.7 overheating
My daughter bought this GC a few months ago. It got hot on her one day, not severely, and she made it home. I noticed a little coolant leaking from the water pump so I replaced it. On the test drive it started overheating again. And I thought it was strange that the heater was blowing cold. Then as the heater started blow warm, the temperature gauge started dropping back to normal. So I figured the thermostat was sticking. I put a new t stat in it and in just a mike or 2 the temp started going over the half way mark turned around and got back home and after watching a YouTube video I learned that the t stat has to be “clocked” a certain way. DOH! So I corrected that and a few hours later went to run some errands. After about 15 miles of various slow and fast speeds, starting, stopping we got on a 55mph stretch and the temp gauge started going up. So again I turned around and even had to pull over twice and let it cool before proceeding. We stopped at a grocery store, did our shopping and I picked up a gallon of distilled water and added half of it to the overflow tank. I made it home with out having to stop. After I got home I did the “burping” thing with the pipe plug on the upper hose connection. Then I drive with the cruise control at 55/60 and after 4 or 5 miles the temp gauge started going towards the 3/4 mark. So back home and I’m stumped. The jeep has 140,000 miles on it. It had a new radiator installed by a dodge dealer back in August and no more than 1200 miles ago. The engine runs smooth as silk and the oil is super clean.
