1997 GC water pump replacement cost?
Does anyone know what a repair shop might charge to replace the water pump in a 1997 Grand Cherokee with the 4.0?...I am asking since I am going to change one for someone and was pondering what to charge. If it cost $XXX at a shop I can use that to show how much I am saving him when I tell them what I want.

You could call a few local shops and ask lol, or you can check out www.repairpal.com and do the estimate unit, it seems to be pretty close

If you are 100% sure you can do it.. and not screw ANYTHING UP... remmber you are charging.. so you own it.. if say.. something bad happens..
$50 bucks they suply parts...
Tell them if you supply parts.. you waranty for 1 year.. parts and labor.. and ofcourse you mark parts up some..
Other wise.. you can only waranty the labor.....I have a labor guide in jeep.. I guess i could acually look up the hrs... but im going to guess 1.2 - 1.5 hr job by the book...
1993-98 grand cherokee 1.7 ( MOTOR labor guide)

I`ll check out that site. I know the GC seemed a lot more involved than my C because the power steering pump bracket is mounted over top the water pump so that needs to come off as well. It`s a piece of cake for me to do it work wise as I`ve worked on all my own, friends and familes cars for 30 years and have pretty much done it all. I was just more thinking of the charge for my time and knowledge. I use to work in a CB repair shop and guys would come in with the "final" blown in their radio and we`d change it in 10 minutes and tell the guy $50 and they`d say, "$50! It only took you 10 minutes!" and we`d always reply.."You`re not paying me for what I do. You`re paying me for what I know!"
