Hey Guys,

I have a 1994 ZJ Grand Cherokee Laredo with the 5.2L V8, 4X4. The ECU (computer) is fried on it and I removed the ECU already. I found some used ECU's on eBay that say working condition but some listings say my Jeep HAS to have 'security' in order for them to work, others say my Jeep must NOT have 'security' in order for them to work.

My questions are as follows:

1. How do I tell which one I need since they look identical?
2. Will any '93-'95 ZJ V8 ECU work in my Jeep?
3. Will a VIN number determine which ECU I need?
4. Do I need to have the ECU programmed in order to work with my Jeep? I called some dealers, and no one is sure.

Any help would be appreciated! I need to sell my old 1994 ZJ and it won't start with a bad ECU, and if I can't get an ECU for it, it's going nowhere.

The part number on the ECM is what you want to match up. No programming is necessary for the pre OBDII ECM.

 

Thanks. The dealers I've called want $275 for an ECU and they thought it didn't need programming, yet weren't entirely sure. I don't want to spend a bunch more money on this Jeep since I have my DD (Daily Driver) which is my '02 WJ, and need to get rid of my '94 ZJ.
