Ok I need a little help im on a road trip and out of the blue my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7l 4x4 shifts into third gear and is now stuck and will not shift out. I have tried puting it in neutral and then shift back to gear and still the same also tried restarting the car any one got any sugestions cause a road trip in a hemi stuck in third gear is a gas hog...

sounds like its in fail-safe mode, is the check engine light on? first thing on trans problems is check fluid level. most of the time when a trans is in fail-safe something electrical is the problem

 

Were you just driving on flat road, or were you offroad? Did you hit any bumps?
