04 grand cherokee front 4wd locked
Hi,
I am having trouble with my 4wd.
I live in New England where it's cold, and the 4wd is essential.
I cannot release the front axles. Reverse and drive will not disengage them.
Is this a vacuum problem? Or a wax problem?
How much harm will it do if not corrected?
The obvious problem is the tight turning now.
Thanks...

When I have this issue, it's the linkage. Try rolling in nuetral at about 5mph then shift into 2wd. Sometimes if I put it into 2wd right before I park, let it sit for a while (with engine off) then into reverse then drive -it will release. It's tempermental for sure.
