Thumbs down 02 WJ Water coming out of exhasut

Like the title says, I just bought an 02 WJ with 146,xxx miles, and I came outside to find a puddle of water directly under my tailpipe, so I stuck my finger in the hole and it was moist( hehe). Anyway, I have never owned a car with a/c before, and a friend told me that some cars when you run the a/c do that. Me being me, I fear the worst, blown headgasket, but have also heard that if the cat is clogged it'll do it too. Has anyone had any experience with this? Also, pics to come! She is pretty clean

It could be condensation build up in cat or muffler. Not from a/c. Are you loosing a coolant?.

If it was from the a/c it would only drip after you ran the a/c for a while and it would come out of the middle of the body or the back of the engine compartment. So it's not the a/c

Most likely a head gasket. Are you losing coolant?? If you remove the radiator cap do you see any bubbles when its running? Does the oil look like a milkshake?

If you answer yes to one or more questions then you have a blown head gasket.

If it's water and not slimy like coolant then it's due to oxygenated gasoline.

Completely normal.

Water is a byproduct of combustion and from a chemical reaction in the cat.convertor. As long as you don't have fluffy clouds of steam and a sweet smell from the exhaust, you're fine. It is totally normal to have water from the exhaust, every vehicle with a cat.convertor has water coming out the exhaust.

Thanks for all the replies guys! I checked the coolant level, and it's still full, the oil is still nice and brown, and the exhaust smells normal. I never thought that it could be normal, but after following the link it makes more sense to me. I guess I'll just have to keep an eye on things, and hope for the best. Thanks again guys!

I have to agree with bustedback. Anybody let their cars or trucks warm up for a few minutes will see this. It may not be much water but there will be some. Vehicles that drive short distances often needs their exhaust replaced sooner than vehicles that drive long distances. This is because moisture just sits in the exhaust and rots it away, unless its stainless.

yep totally normal, usually its during warm up, my guess is cause its dumping more fuel into it to heat up, also the water is a good way to find exhaust leaks, found that out, had a small hole in my muffler and saw it dripping water, got it welded up

That hole is there for the water to drain out.
