So... That's done lol. New tranny is in and feels good. Shifts good and easy like my old one. SYE works and front shaft works well. 4* shims in the back. Cross member looks the same between the 2wd and 4wd. Was super fun haha. Need to install t case lever. About to order a front driveshaft from a part out on here and then my FST linkage is 3 weeks out :/. Might have to make my own lol
Y'all 2WD Jawjuh boys are gonna be sooooo jealous....
Pickin' up a 4WD AW4 from Jessup at the end of the month... got it on eBay for 50 bucks - only bidder

I'll be doing the swap with my brother in law.. had a tranny jack and just about every tool there is... He used to work at trans-diesel rebuilding transmissions.... Mine is stock height too so that part shouldn't be that bad.Originally Posted by 94XjSport94

Get an e14 socket for the top bell housing bolts and for a 3/8 or 1/2 drive and use air tools lol. I have a rear driveshaft from a 242 if you need it. It will be hard to get the bell housing of the trans out from under the Jeep at stock height on a jack so you might need to be able to lift one side.Originally Posted by Basslicks

I think I might have to take you up on that DS... I'll let you know though. I have a spare one sitting in my garage, but I don't know what it came out of. We'll probably end up putting the jeep up on ramps... so that combined with the 29" tires, hopefully it will give us enough clearance - we had enough when we took the tranny out of a 2wd 84 s10 - and it was actually lower that stock height.... we'll get it figured out though. Thanks for the tip on the sizes and air tools... now what is a e14 socket? Never heard of that - is it just a regular metric socket?Originally Posted by 94XjSport94

Yeah I can tell you everything you need to know about the swap haha. E14 is the top two bolts on the bellhousing. It is an inverted torx head bolt, so the torx head sticks out and a socket has to fit over it. I got lucky and my grandpas friend had one by some random chance. I couldn't find one at a store around me. I can give you a step by step process if you want haOriginally Posted by Basslicks

Maybe to big of a socket? Every 4.0 I've done has had e12. It's the only inverted torx I keep in my roll cart.Originally Posted by 94XjSport94

I've read 14 in both write ups I've found on dropping them? When I got them we took the 14's and 16's just incase. Regular socket and impacts. 14's had them on and off no problem and the torx heads looked fine, edges didn't look rounded or anything.Originally Posted by N20jeep

Right on... well, just to be sure I'll just snag a 12 and a 14... I love tools so that just gives me an excuse to get more
