Default White War Wagon Build

Well, last Sunday I sold my 1988 XJ and immediately drove over to my sister's house and bought her 2001 XJ. Right now it pretty much stock. However, I picked up a 2" budget boost and am waiting for that to ship. It should be here Friday and I hope to have it on this weekend. She put some new 235/75/r15 tires on it about 6 months ago, so I will probably keep them on for a while and save for new tires and a 3" or 4" lift to go on when I need new tires.

I did my first application of PB blaster today to make things easier for me next weekend. I'm also planning to repaint the trim that has faded. Any recommendations on a paint to use? I was thinking a spray on bedliner would work nicely, but I'm open to suggestions.

Here is a picture of how it sits today.

Today my wife was going to meet with a friend from college and I had absolutely no interest in going until I realized that she was going to be 10 minutes away from a "Pull-A-Part". So, I went along and dropped her off to hang out with her friend and started cruising the lot.

I found a ton of S-10's with leaf springs still in place and was going to take a set for a bastard pack. I realized that at this stage going 3+ inches with a bastard pack would require too much $ on shocks, sye, tires, etc. so I passed. I wandered over and started looking at the Cherokees that were around the yard and most were pretty picked over. I saw one with some cheap lights on the roof and wandered over to see what was on that one. When I saw it from the front I saw it was missing it's springs and figured it had probably been lifted at one point. I went around the back and saw 2 rough country 2" shackles still there and went to work making them mine.

The first one came off with no problems. The second was a beast. It had seized up and was not moving at all. I spent 30 minutes with an assortment of ratchets, wrenches, and breaker bars trying to loosen it. It wasn't budging. I dug to the bottom of the tool box and pulled out the BFH. A wrench and 100 whacks with the BFH got it to move just a tiny bit, but that is all it needed. After that it came out with no problem.

So, I have 2 excellent condition 2" shackles for $15. I'm canceling my order for my 2" lift and using these and have my eyes on a set of 2" spacers from another source. I may have the super budget boost for under $50.

Next weekend it should all be installed.

Awesome man! Sometimes you'll strike gold at the scrapyard. My buddy got a front brush guard, and rear tail light guards from the junkyard for his white XJ, which, he also calls the war wagon. lmao.

Have fun! And pics are always good too.

I was impressed at some of the things I found, but wasn't lucky enough to find a nice brush guard or any other exterior parts. I found a hitch on what I think was an xj with a towing package. However, this yard has a policy where you can't bring in jacks and the hitch was resting on the "jack stand" (two wheels welded together) so I wouldn't be able to get it off the Jeep.

I'll start throwing some pics up when I lift it this weekend.

So today I picked up some more parts for my xj for a song.

I found a guy selling 3" rusty's springs and 2" spacers and a 6 OME trim spacers. I got all of this and a track bar for $75.

The springs are in great shape and almost brand new. I'm totally stoked about the deal I got on all of this.

And finally, pics!

The springs

And half of the spacers
