The Turd
This method does away with the need of replacing the formentioned parts, and is actually easier then the way I did mine.
I think you could buy the brackets, use the other parts you all ready have, and one everything is lined up right, burn the brackets in.. and call it good.

The explorer calipers are totally different, then what I used. I used disc brakes off of a ZJ. I too thought the 8.8 ones would work.. but it was more work then it was worth to me. If you had a set of Crown vic brakes... then all you do is redrill a couple of holes.
Also if you plan on re-using your stock shafts you are going to need more then just the backing plates. You will also need a new bearing retainer, possibly bearing and more then likely axle seal. The bearing and bearing and bearing retainer all have to be pressed on. Thats one of the reasons why I went with Alloy USA kit in the rear. You get all the forementioned parts plus new lug nuts and axle studs. One I got mine (june 08) it was 275 shipped to my door.
As for e-brakes.. I use a line lock, but terra flex sells longer e-brake cables for the discswaps in the rear.

They looked way different when I put them up to the axle flanges and next to the axle. The bolt holes were not even close. I couldnt see it working very easyly.

, that's the only tricky part. I picked up some from a 03+ rubicon and plan on redrilling the holes to work.

I too used the rubicon plates and had them redrilled, as well as hacing the backing plates redrilled, and the center hole opened up. The machine shop even commented on what a pita it was to chuck the calipers up for use with their equipment, and how hard the backing plate material was
I decided to keep the 8.8 discs for a ford 9" I have
I am also working on a set of flat top knuckles and a HPd44 for the front
Might end up being a half ton full width rig before to long

Yeah they came out of a 73 ford f100 I was givent to get out of a mans yard
it Had the axles, and a NP435 w/a D21 t-case. Interesting t-case.. only had one speed 2 to 1 was all gear driven and weighed a ton. Absolutlely no resale value. Did sell the np435 and kept the axles. Only down side to the axles were, drum brake fronts, so I traded a junk car for a 10 bolt front to get a set of flat top knuckles.. Now it is just a matter of assembling the axles buying gears and lockers.

I dont know any legal places around here. I havent been in the area for long and just started getting into wheelin. All the wheelin I have done is just nice easy stuff, seeing how she is my dd.
Gorcha.. there isnt much around our area. You have to go to Charlotesville area. I know a guy in West Point who is building a rock course.. but it is being built for vehicles that are 38's and up
Well I finally got around to doing some more work to my toy.
First I decided to ditch my Pro Comp AT's for something with a lil more use. I had a set of 33x12.5 on a set of classic CJ7 rims. So I bleacked them out and decided to use them.

AS for a set of trail tires I got a REALLY good deal on some Pizza cutter tires. 32x9.5 TSL's on stock jeep rims. Of course they got blacked out as well.

Here is the back jacked up with the AT's on it

Here is the back with the MT's on it. You can even see the Trail Sports wheel spacer

Here is what the front to rear difference looks like before I put spacer and tires on front.

This is how much flex I have with to short of shocks. My shocks could stand 4-5 more inches of length. I know its not impressive though.

If anyone want to make a reasonable offer on some used 33x12.5 on 5x4.5 rims with 4" BS let me know.

Quick question, what was the vinyl top off of when you bought it. I have a xj cut like that but just have a tarp over it when I'm not out, looks like that would work well. Thanks
