Default Taking of door rockers and putting on running boards zj

My rockers below the doors both sides are rusted to nothing. I want to pull them off but from what I understand there expensive to replace. I just want to put something there unless it look OK with them off. Any ideas to replace them or put something else? Also, how hard would it be to go to a junk yard, pull the ones off there, paint them to the color of my jeep, and put them on? Nothing fancy need just something that looks better then a bunch of rust. Also I took out all the rust with the angle grinder under the hood and back hatch. Theres some pitting and rust holes. I know how to repair the pitting, but the rust holes even with fiberglass for support, wouldnt bondo just break loose if it got slammed to hard?
Thanks
