Yesterdays chore: I've had an annoying ticking noise coming from the transmission recently and tracked it to the flexplate inspection cover. Adding missing bolts and tightening solved it. Loctited and tightened bolts on the flexplate while I was there, and noticed that the bolt holes on the flexplate looked a bit oval so it probably needs to be replaced in a not to distant future.
Funny thing, this Jeep thing. I bought my XJ on a whim. Just thought it would be a fun plaything to have at the cabin, and maybe use it to go on fishing trips now and then. I've had a Land Rover Discovery 4 as my daily driver for the last couple of years. It costed me more than twenty times than the XJ when I bought it and its an awesome car with all the comfort and power you need.
Still I'm picking up the keys to the XJ 9 out of 10 mornings for driving the 6-7 miles or so to work...

Just to give you a helping hand on this since I have a 94 2 door. If you go 4.5 in front and 4.5 leaf in back you will have a very high rear end. I had to get no-lift shackle relocation in order to get her some what level and to ride good, Stock shackles are horrible on the 4.5 leafs because the leafs are so long. and extended shackles don't help with height or ride. So if you do the 4.5 leaf put money towards to a no-lift shackle relocation. Life will be easier and alot smoother.

Thanks for the input. I actually bought a 3.5" leaf pack. Ordered 4.5 at first but changed my mind after some thinking. I guess 3.5" leafs and the 1.5" shackles I have now will work out ok.
Btw, I'm gonna get some lower control arms and I'm thinking about these ones from Rough Country. Question is if they will be ok or if I should spend the extra money on adjustable ones?
Ok, this is probably one of the more unnecessary modifications I could do since I'm planning to relocate the air filter to the passenger side cowl later on. But I'm just a simple man who likes holes, so did this just because I like the look of it. I guess a little extra air flow to the filter won't hurt either.
Made a template and punched the centers, then drilled the holes with a 8mm bit. Was going for more holes but found out that there is a mounting screw for air deflectors(?) behind there so only did the ones on the right.
Cut out this part of the hood.
Grinded and spraypainted.
Sanded down the edges and spraypainted.
Finished. All in all it took about 30 minutes.

Made new gauges yesterday. Instead of changing speedometer gear I just altered the gauge to show correct speed.
Had some thin optic fiber lying around, so I taped this around the holes with transparent tape. Wasn't strong enough to be the only light source but it added a little more ambient light.
Made new design in Adobe Illustrator, then printed on glossy photo paper. Painted the needles with a black pen.
I need adjust the oil gauge... And put back the column.
Removed the clock. Going to make a switch panel for aux. lights etc. and put there instead.
I saw no point in anything higher than 140 km/h (87mph), so... weeeeeee
