Sampson's Turbo XJ Build Tons of Fab and $$$
My name is Sampson and I'm part of the HUDFAB team.
I've been slackin on posting pics of my cherokee so here goes...
Let's see where do I start...
I bought this 1998 Cherokee for $500.00 on craigslist from some people who lived on lookout Mt. It had 178,000 Miles, 5 spd Manual, cloth interior, a blue hatch and some mouse / rodent TPS wiring problems but I drove it home.
From there I threw it on the lift and installed ACOS Coil spacers and Rear Leafs.. Nothing special mostly just to help it get around in the snow for my wife to drive.
Well turns out I found the wife a different XJ and I began to build this one.
Next I Played in the snow a lot..
Then from there and this always happens.. It's not big enough So I got a set of 33's and added coils in the front shocks all around but I got a bunk set of S-10 Leafs and they didn't work out so well...
Next comes the fun stuff
At the time I owned my own business doing Remote Starts and Alarms so I needed a mobile office and this was before they invented iPad's or I would have just rolled with one of those.. But I'm sure many of you will appreciate this was money / time well wasted...
I set out on a mission to find the biggest touch screen monitor I could fit in my car to control a computer (and my music) to due invoices, look up wiring diagrams and watch **** while I drive
So I found the 10.5' Xenarc Touch Screen unit that I must say fits real nice in a custom made bezel..
That last pic makes me laugh it looks like in in the Riddler's House..
Anyway.. next I added a Mac Mini in the console because windows sucks..
Added 2 extra Yellow Top Optima's in the trunk just in case I need to weld something or make lightning..
Then I dynamat'd the whole f'n truck from top to bottom... Note the Wireless keyboard velcro'd to the steering wheel.. Cops love seeing that **** on the highway
Around this same time I got sick of shifting so I bought a 2001 40,000 Mile Donor jeep from Klode's and Swapped EVERYTHING over...
I swapped out the motor, tranny, t-case, and complete Leather interior with factory heated seats!
Here's how much fun it is to wire up the transmission computer Oh and on a side note make sure you use the same red colored wire so if anyone besides you ever tries to trouble shoot this system for run-ability problems they will hit there head against the wall for sure
So one day I was bored and decided to install a Eclipse double din Touch Screen Navigation unit in place of my instrument cluster.. Well long story short Chrysler runs data communication thru the cluster and you loose door locks if you unplug it.. so I had to rewire the cluster to underneath the back seat.. The original cluster is back in it's place...
Running Gear Going In
Next I swapped out the rear end for a Ford 9" with 4.11's and a detroit out of a 1964 Galaxy Wagon so the bolt pattern stayed 5 x 4.5 and and the width is just about perfect.
Then I went to you pull and freeze your a$$ off and pay and snatched up a Dana 30 front out of a 1984 XJ with 4.10's. It's a lot more work than just re-gearing but life is a learning process and sometimes you have to prove how stupid you can be before you learn anything..
Next it was time for fabrication from HUDFAB if you don't already know or you've been living under a honda civic Dustin makes some kick a$$ parts for a great price which means you can still afford booze and strippers
I don't drive this truck much but I did manage to go up wheelin about 6 times this year
So Plans for the future are to finish the turbo kit that I'm building and hopefully cruise up the highway without downshifting
Just Empty Every Pocket
And remember kids always wear your helmet when walking down the street
