Project Tan

Heres my attempt to put a desent rattle can paint job on my XJ. Im not gonna throw a bunch of money to a shop for a paint job just so I can ding and scratch it up on the trail. I do a alot of wheeling so I think this will be perfect.
If you go to www.ericsxj.com you will see what I am trying to accomplish. Here is a pic of his finished Cherokee with the exact color of tan I am going to use.

Here are some pics of what my XJ looked like as of the other day.
The black paint is herculiner :wallbash: Dont ask me why I did this. It looked good at first, but I started to hate it and wanted a single color paint job. Well, other than the black you see on the bottom of the doors and rocker panels. That will remain herculined cause of the great job it did protecting that area when wheeling.

So heres what it looks like after hours of scraping herculiner off with a paint scraper and throwing some white primer on the front.

I painted mine tan too, but I used automotive paint not rattlecan, check my build thread. To be honest the rattlecan might be the better option, easier touchup.

I was looking for your build cause your cherokee is the first one I saw that was tan and I fell in love with it. Ill give credit to you cause its what first gave me the itch to have a tan XJ. So, THANKS!
And yes, Im using rattle can for the ease of touch ups. Thats why I herculined it in the first place. That and the trail damage that I had put on my cherokee.

Heres the hood I picked up from a buddy for $30 bucks. I was gonna keep everything white, but the hood had to turned to an off white. Plus the tan color looks like the old school army Jeeps:thumbup1:

That's exactly what I used on my Jeep..Works allsome covers well and easy to touch up...I'm retired US ARMY and I thought this would make a great color for my project xj.

Thats what Ive heard. I wish it wasnt over $6 bucks a can. I guess its alot cheaper than even a Macco job though. I will also be wet sanding it with 1500 paper. Its amazing what wet sanding can do with a rattle can job.
Here are some photos of other stuff I have done. I dont know how to add captions to each photo so please forgive the many replies for differnt stuff. If anyone knows, please let me know.

I swapped in a 2nd Generation XJ shifter and a WJ shifter handle into my '91 about a year ago. Im 6'7" so my seat has to be all the way back and the curved shifter makes it so I can rest my hand on it. Plus my hands are really big and the WJ handle is much more comfortable. And it just looks alot better.

My old gauge cluster's speedo needle kept bouncing around and acting like it was on crack so I got one from the junk yard. Before I put it in, I painted the needles red with model paint. You can see the mileage shows 134xxx mile on it (I wish!) but in reality, I have over 210xxx on the beast. She still runs good and way strong other than an oil leak.

I finally moved my CB antena from between the front fender and hood to the rear quarter panel. Just modified the existing bracket.
The hatch is primered white and I have yet to touch the rear quarter panel.

I removed the center vent and cut up a piece of aluminum so I could mount my tweeters in its place.
