Got home a bit early from work today. Decided to undertake the task of repairing the drivers side window lockout switch. I have the same problem hundreds of folks have, you can only actuate the windows from the master switch located on the driver's door.
So you end up feeling like a big schwanz, having to ask passengers how open or closed they want their window.
Got the door panel off with out too much trouble
Decided to work on top of the trash cans, you guessed it, work bench is a mess
Dusty old switch, free at last
Using a bit of patience, I removed the actuators from the top of the switches. You don't need to remove the electric mirror actuators.
Got the circuit board free from the assembly, I internally cleaned the tiny window lock out switch. Also noticed atrocities where the switch's through-hole pegs solder into board. Cracked joints and what appears to be a chipped joint
Fixed solder joints, thanks Weller!!
Scale modeling tools at work! Nothing quite like a pair of normally closed fine tweezers for this small torsion spring. The spring goes inside the window lock out switch
I checked the continuity of the switch with my Fluke DMM before installing back in the XJ. Push switch, beeeeeeeeeeep. Push switch again, Silence. Push switch, beeeeeeeep. Yep, she's good.
No pics of everything back together. I think everyone knows what that looks like. It really seems the solder joints where the offending problem. I'm sure the switch needed cleaned internally, but the solder joint made up most of problem.
If your going to tackle this project, have your solder iron warmed up and ready. Windows are now working flawlessly at each door's window controls.

Did the switch covers come off easy? I need to fix the door lock switch, they unlock fine, just won't lock. Figuring I have the same problem.
Yes not too bad. Place flat head under the switch cover and use a solid prying force. They will pop off and fly across the room. If you need any help PM me. I can give you my phone number if you need help.

Picked up one from the local u pull, tried it and same thing. Will unlock with no problem every time. Locks when it feels like it. Modified one of my body panel tools, to have even lift on each side. First three no problem, fourth one busted the tabs that hold the rocker part same with the other 2. So went to Amazon, found one for 20$ new. Will see how this one works. Pass side works perfect. Will update when I install it. Also picked up a switch for the rear wiper, it now works on the delay section, instead of just the wash n wipe.

Cool, I need to replace my rear wiper switch as well. It is broken and floppy.
From getting my tools out to putting them away was about 20 mins. Not bad!

Jeep is looking good though
lol.... putting my tools away takes 20 minutes in and of itself. I clean mine before I put them away. My mechanic uncle got me in the habit of doing that when I was living with my grandparents and working on cars with them. Had to wipe each tool down before it was put away at the end of the day... right down to the smallest socket or driver bit. I'll say this much about it... my hands don't get dirty from my tools that way. I can pick up a clean wrench, work on a clean area (as rare as those are) and put the tool back with my hand and the tool still clean.... versus the alternative - touching the tool with a boogersnot of grease on it and voila... dirty hand before you even get started.
Wow feels like forever since I've posted. Been really busy with other ****. My son is now on the verge of walking. So I'm about to get even more busy. Been working through getting these rear tube flares installed.
Got the factory stuff removed
Gave my angle grinder a work out, started with the gas cap armor
Let my lovely wife hit the XJ a few times
Already distracted, looking for a place to hang a baby swing
Got the flare hung. This side sucks a bit because of the limited access inside the the hatch. Plus there are a bunch of wires to work around.
Took the wheel off and got the cut fold more hammered down
Put the first coat of duplicolor undercoating on the folds
That's all folks, short and sweet. I forgot to mention I also put my alcohol and atf mix on the rear sway bar fasteners. I'm about to do away with the thing. Right now I'm going to anchor a piece of IKEA furniture to the wall. Cheers.
