I picked up the metal for the roof rack and its pretty thick. I got it for free so I can't complain but at 1/16" thick wall, I'm going to have to make some modifications to the design. I want a low profile roof rack but also want 5 beam in the front. I'm thinking I will hang the the lights from a bar rather than mound them up from a bar; kind of like this:
Attachment 184184 I got some JCR Offroad roof rack mounts to hook it on. I originally bought four but with the weight of this thing, I think I'll order two more. I should be working on this thing over the next few weekends so progress should be slow and steady. Unfortunately, my exhaust is going out on me, so that may take priority over the rack. Then, over the past few days, my battery hasn't been performing well. I'm thinking a DieHard Platinum 34 would be a good replacement but just more $$$. |
I did some investigating/research into my Cherokee and discovered that it came from the factory with a tow package. My hint at this was from the transmission radiator I have behind my grill. Besides this benefit I found that XJs with this package came with 3.73:1 differential gears.

Hit 180K miles today. I figure the engine's about halfway through its life

Hey nice jeep, I like your light mod. How's the 4.5" zone? Full leaf or add-a-leaf? control arms, adustable trackbar? Any other suspension/driveline upgrades?

Took her out on some local trail today. Got her dirty and stuck twice. Fist hole we went in had some unseen deep ruts going through it that, of course, just happens to be where I went in :brickwall:.

My upcoming projects include a roof rack, a new front bumper, and rock sliders. I plan to weld all these myself. The roof rack is the first to come. It'll have five, 6 inch HID driving lights on the front, possibly some type of back-up light on the rear, a spare tire mount, high-lift mount, ax and shovel mount. More details on that as it's built. The bumper will be next. Why a new bumper? Well, I need a winch. I wheel alone most the time pushing a winch pretty high on my upgrades list. This bumper, while winch compatible on the Wrangler, isn't on the Cherokee. I want it to look something like this:
Attachment 180684 Attachment 180685 I may extend the middle guard into a stinger. Idk. My question is: do I build a winch plate into the bumper, like in the pictures, or do I put in a receiver hitch and keep the winch on a cradle in the back until needed? This would probably be better for the winch as it wouldn't be exposed to the elements (and here in Michigan we got element). I'm not sure though. What would I loose by going this route? Impute would be appreciated. |
