Project Search + Rescue ZJ
So as you may or may not know, I sold my 91 Laredo. What has taken it's place is a 1998 Grand Cherokee Limited. Some specs are as follows:
5.2L V8
Quadra-drive full time all wheel drive.
Power Everything
Sunroof
Front axle is Dana 30.
Rear axle is Dana 44.
So far I haven't made any mods to it, just my Search and Rescue stickers. I am kind of enjoying the stock ride for a bit. However, my long term plans include:
3.5" Lift
31" BFG's (All Terrains / Mud Terrain KM2)
Cragar Soft 8 / D-Window rims
ARB Winch bumper.
Light bar.
Just real basic upgrades, but it will make a world of difference.
Pics will be up soon so stay tuned!

f>r swap it? and trim a little with 32's!
If you have your xj..swap tcases so you have a 231. Alot of potential, esspecially if you've got the xj still! You can swap the front D30's pending the ratio is the same...ditches your Cv shafts! Alot you can do there!
Can't wait to see it take action!

Unfortunately I had to sell the XJ in order to put the down payment on this one... What's wrong with the Dana 30 in these?

I'm still learning a lot about the ZJs so any and all advice or comments are really appreciated lol.

Ya LP vs HP & you have CV shafts...swap in a HP when you can..honestly ZJ's are sick & very comfortable. I'm kind of sad I didn't get the silver one I was looking at..but out here most are torn up quick & its hard to find a nice one at a decent price. I wouldn't get a ZJ unless it had the 4.0 & Aw4 in it though..and of course those were the ones in the dealers lots
But ya a 231 swap would give you the option to run a lunch box locker..& you'd get better mileage from not being in 4x4 all the time & also give your more aftermarket support. The axle swap ditches your CV shafts & gets you a HP D30. If you ever look into a transfer case swap..I'd look into the NP241. Its from the Rubicon wronglers, and its got a 4:1 stock..and because its clocked differently it will sit higher up!
I run a wrongler trans & transfer & my trasnfer case sits like 5" higher than a normal XJ case would...like way up above the crossmember! And it litterally bolted right in..not issues what so ever!

Anyways, Hey All! Haven't posted in a while since I haven't made a whole lot of progress on the ZJ build.
I'm having an issue with the ZJ right now and I'm not sure if its the transmission or just exactly what. I tried searching the forum but I couldn't see anything quite like my situation. The Jeep is a 1998 Grand Cherokee Limited with the 5.2 liter V8.
There is some sort of clicking/pinging sound that sounds like it is coming from the bell housing, and it seems to correlate with the RPMs. It does it after the jeep has been parked for any amount of time. It seems to start once I begin deceleration.
It makes the sound once I near a stop and continues until acceleration, at which point it will eventually stop once I reach 2nd or 3rd gear. It sometimes seems to cause the transmisson to slip when I begin acceleration. I was thinking torque converter but not sure what would cause it to behave like this.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
If you need anymore info let me know!
