Sold the D44 to a member on here in AL for $350... so means this truck so far has cost me $50... ill keep up on what ive sold and what ive made so you guys can get an idea on how much money i have/dont have in this axle build... ready to order my spring perches while im at it... also im planning to go ahead and install my 98 S-10 bastard pack ($30 for both sides from buddy at LKQ... still all black paint... no rust and has the helper spring), rear shocks(any ideas?), and brake lines (probly from a YJ) while im doing this 9in swap...

picking up the ford Sat... excited... here is a link as to what i plan on doing... im pretty sure the axle has cast wedges... according to research and years it should be even though they looked welded... either way im probly going this rout... elliminates the need for upper control arms and is EXTREMELY simple to do... everyone thats done this has been very happy from what ive read... running no steering stabilizers or swaybars even... with zero death wabble... ive seen them done straight like this thread and at a angle on another thread... not sure which would be best there... maybe ill look into that when it comes to the round control arms alone... but ive read that the wedge marks on a xj are almost dead center on the frame... this making it easy to build a bracket down the middle of the frame for the control arm mounts... so from what ive read all of this is really easy to do... anyways heres the link!

picked up the truck... ready to start gutting it out and getting my axles... i looked up the VIN as i read that some people say the truck has a 390 when it really has the 360 because theres no real way to tell without pulling it apart... and sure enough it has the 360... which i dont really care either way anyway... i dont think the guy knew that it was a 360 when he sold it to me cause he really didnt know a thing about vehicles... im sure who he bout it from told him this... i also went by the local surplus place and he had a 6.2 diesel and TH400 from a K5 blazer under a tent... has 13,000 miles on it and he wants only 1500 for the motor and tranny... whats nice about this is AA makes a adapter for the TH400 tranny to the 231 transfer case... AND its all mechanical... maybe 3 wires that go to the whole motor... so its a easy as heck swap... and im gonna start saving maybe when my PELL check comes that i dont need for school in acouple months... ill go get it... then sell my jeeps motor and tranny and make most of it back anyways... then ill have a 6.2 cherokee.... hehehe... i saw a thread on a guy doing this but then he stopped on the build... so no telling...

Those older generation diesels were not very desirable. There was a big recall on I believe the fuel injection systems. If you google it I'm sure you'll find the details... I drove a Suburban with one in it years ago and thought it was a Dog.
GM had to warranty the new systems they put in for 100,000 miles to get the egg off their faces!
See if you can find a Duramax, I was the Engineer in charge of that program for the camshafts... Very nice motors!

yeah im a big diesel fan but mostly cummins.. ive got a 03 sitting in the driveway with $10k worth of mods... not really a fan of the duramax when its built... stock itll last as long as the rest but the only motors worth building were the 7.3 powerstroke and 5.9 cummins... in my opinion anyways... i havent researched abunch yet on this 6.2 motor but a buddy is looking for a K5 blazer with one that why we were there in the first place... he said everything hes read about them was good IF you leave them stock... he said if you start to build them for performance it has to be done right in order not to break other stuff in the process... the reason the 6.2 is a good doner motor is there a dime a dozen and there still mechanical... also the fact that it would be probly the only V8 style diesel that would fit... the 4BT's youll be lucky to get with 200k for $4k by itself... the duramax might would fit but its all electrical... the older cummins would never fit... to tall... im gonna research them alot before i go jump into doing it... but i deff love the opinions and thoughts... makes me think about things i havent already!

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=182766
all these guys seem to love it... other then them not being "fast" they all like the power pulling and reliability... which would be good power climbing he trailes... and is about the size of a 350... well just by looking at it anyways...

So what made you put the air intake through the hood i have been thinking about that for a long time now. Also Where did you move your Vacume lines to that were attached to the air box?

i just took them all out... didnt need them all... there was abunch of useless ones... i did it cause on my ZJ i could actually shut the hood like this and liked the sounds... but when i did the renix/HO hybrid and the 2001 intake it rendered my stock intake useless since the TB's are differrent... so instead of going to the JY and buying a whole stock intake setup i did this... cheap and easy... i need to finish it though... just so darn busy... started on this axle swap now... lol

so after about 2 hours of searching for ford 5 on 5.5 16.5in wheels i gave up... couldnt find them... i went on to look for a new set of the military 16.5in 37' for my cummins... since ive now burned the two back ones off... and sure enough... 3 hours away i found a guy selling brand new ones WITH ford 5on 5.5 bolt pattern wheels mounted on them... no dang way... he wants a nice $650 for them which is more then what ive paid in the past and i plan to show him i can get them cheaper in hopes he comes down... but since im saving on shipping and i get the wheels i need for the jeeps new ford axles soon to go in... i almost couldnt turn it down anyways... but of course i had to email instead of call and i HOPE.... he still has them... if he emails or calls and says there sold already itll be like finding out santa aint real all over again...

last one... on the 9in you gotta pull the axles out before the center section will come out... just so you all know... and they have the pressed on bearing so getting them out took some work...

i also just ordered a light weight full spool for it on ebay... only $75 shipped to the door... not a mini spool but full spool... these are much stronger... there is no carrier break for the 9in... you just have to make sure you order the right spool as they had 28 or 31 splines being the stronger ones... which is what i have... the 31... so thats good!! i do think aftermarket wise they got like 35 splines... but ill worry about upgrading to that pricey stuff when i start breaking 31 splines... lol...

well as i started looking for a rebuild kit since the seals are all shot... i thought id be an idiot not to just go ahead and regear... these axles have 3.50 gearing which isnt going to be enough for 37's... was planning on getting the axles under the jeep and back on the road but heck... if im gonna rip them apart... i may as well buy gears... found a guy on ebay i can get 4.86's for only $128 shipped... ill get the 4.88's for the D44 when i start to build it... but the rear axle comes first... lol...

tomorrow if i get the chance the housing and all will be drenched in degreaser and pressure washed... then hit with some paint... also going to go ahead and replace the brake metal lines as there just old and cheap... im also going to grab my WJ rear disc brakes and start looking into what its gonna take to swap them over... should be really easy i think anyways lol...

Also the rebuild kit is $78.50... thats all my seals and TIMKEN bearing... which isnt bad either... im trying to stay as frugal as possible by searching the cheapest price but not cheapest product i can... when it comes to the axles you dont really have much choice but to dip it the pocket...
