Project Commando (pg5 for turbo build)
Bought my first Jeep a couple weeks back, finally got it running and driving. Its a 1990 Cherokee Limited, black with black leather, gold trim and cross lace wheels, 4L/auto, not sure what rear ect I have. Picked it up for $100 even, the taxes and tags cost more than what I paid for it haha. Some rust on the doors and rockers but floors and everything else are solid. Id like to do a 3-3.5in lift eventually. Its getting a side exit exhaust soon cause its broken before the cat anyway and I dont have any smog testing to go through. Im about to go put on some 265/75/15s which are around 31s IIRC, theyre mounted on some newer grand cherokee wheels. Ill get a picture tomorrow while Im at work during the day. Right now its leaking oil from the VC, have a gasket already, brakes are a little squishy and the e-brake doesnt work, the steering is VERY light and the truck tracks horribly but Im thinking its partially due to the bald/semi flat tires that are on it. Theres also some clunking and squeeling, Im thinking front wheel bearings and U-joints all around. I want to paint it soon before winter after I get some front doors for it, thinking a desert camo or just the sand color or possibly a blue urban camo, I have templates made already but Im thinking I want the desert colors more. Anywho, Ill be updating this as I go and maybe you guys can give me some advice on what to do and avoid. Heres the only pictures I have at the moment.

welcome to the forum and looks like a good project but if u have a stock tow package on it,then u more than likely have the dana44 rear if not then u have the dana35,and the 265's will fit fine, but spacers will eliminate the chance of rubbin, and 99+ have a different lug pattern for the grand cherokee, i learned that the hard way and had to get adapters

Im not sure what it has and what it doesnt, whats the easiest way to tell cause Im about to go out there in the dark and change all the tires/wheels. The wheels are from a 96' GC, I checked before I bought them but theyr were only $40 so even if they didnt fit I wouldnt be out much and could surely sell them for the same amount. What size spacers do you recommend? I plan to cut the fender flares off and fold them or whatever.

will be a cheap and good set that u can get adapters or just spacers, but mine are 1.25inches and are gr8 and trimmin the fenders are a good idea to increase room

Welcome to CF, Looks like you got a great deal for what little money..
If you want to see desert tan color jeeps there are a few of them on here including mine. Most were done in the driveway/backyard with rattle cans(spray paint) from your nearest wallyworld.Goodluck on your project and I hope to see some daylight pics of future mods..LOL

"D35 was standard D44 was a tow package option. After 1990, D44 was special order option, and 8.25 was a tow package option, though you could still get the D35 with tow package."
